With finals season right around the corner, anxiety revving up in every aspect of campus life, and donations to our long-cherished Testudo under heavy review, there can be no doubt that we need something to keep our spirits up in these trying times. After long debates and countless hours of negotiation, The UMD Department of Resident Life has announced, in partnership with the Athletics Marketing Staff, that this year’s finals week will be featuring an Eleventh Hour Hot Dog Toss!
This year, Catalyst Hot Dogs made its grand debut on the Maryland campus and has quickly become a beloved part of Terrapin athletics, with students going crazy over the Third Quarter Hot Dog Toss at every Football and Basketball home game.
“The Catalyst Hot Dog Toss is the reason I stay for the whole game,” said freshman business major Frank Frutter. “When the team is down twenty at the half and I’m just about to abandon the home team again, I hear the air horns welcoming the hot dog toss summoning me back to my seat, and I just know I have to stay. Who could pass up a chance to get one of those sweet, sweet dogs?”
“Clearly, something about these t-shirt-wrapped sausages does wonders for student morale,” a student Reslife employee said when we reached out for comment. “So what better way is there to keep bringing the energy straight through the end of the semester than with the Eleventh Hour Hot Dog Toss?”
This Hot Dog Toss has been in the works for a very long time and will feature a guest appearance by the Catalyst Hot Dog Man at McKeldin Library at midnight this coming Reading Day. He will reportedly use his signature Hot Dog onesie and Pit Vipers to expertly aim his bratwurst cannon and launch these delicious sausages into the Terrapin Learning Commons for a few lucky students to become hot dog winners. While talks are still ongoing to bring this event to more beloved study locations around campus, such as the ESJ Lobby and the STAMP Atrium, one thing can be certain – this event is sure to be a blast.
